Once again, behalf of the Show Committee, volunteer helpers and sponsors, I welcome you to the 80th Aldermaston & Wasing Show!!
First staged in 1942, inspired by the ‘Dig for Victory’ Campaign, it has continued to this day through various venues, times and days, but always on the first September weekend.
However, the continuance of this Show, your Village Show, has never been more uncertain!
We will be losing key members of the team once this years’ Show concludes. After decades of service on the Show Committee, age and illness have taken their toll. The time has finally come to hand over to a new, younger generation to carry the Show on, with new ideas and abilities.
Despite being financially sound and with the enthusiastic backing from our hosts, The Old Mill, and our suppliers and sponsors, we need people to come forward to make next years’ Show happen. You may think that, ‘the Show must go on’, but new volunteers this focal point in the calendar, where people from local Parishes have gathered for 80 years, will be lost. We need people to help with administration, behind the scenes, with sideshows, compering the event and simply to help assemble and pack away the Show.
The aim of our Show is to present an annual community event. To be an entertaining and enjoyable occasion at the end of Summer in a most beautiful and peaceful rural setting. During the year we offer the chance for people to prepare for and enter our horticultural and other competition classes to be brought to the Show with prizes and trophies on offer for the best in class. We aim to do all this in a sustainable way and to raise money for local charities.
Please enjoy your 80th Show and please think of what you can do or contribute, with the support of the Show Committee, to ensure we gather here next year for our 81st Show!
